Cover Core Structure and Features
- Hollow Reinforced Structure: Features internal I-beam or rectangular reinforcing ribs that significantly reduce weight while ensuring high structural strength, offering excellent load-bearing performance.
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: Utilizing fiberglass as the reinforcement and unsaturated polyester or vinyl ester resin as the matrix, these covers resist acids, alkalis, salt spray, sewage, and various chemicals; they never rust or rot, boasting a service life of 20–30 years.
- Lightweight yet High-Strength: Weighing only one-quarter as much as steel covers of the same specifications, they can be handled and installed by a single person without the need for heavy lifting equipment, thereby reducing construction costs.
- Insulating and Flame-Retardant: Non-conductive and non-magnetic, making them ideal for electrical environments such as cable trenches and substations; flame-retardant grades can be customized to meet specific fire safety requirements.
- Anti-slip and Wear-Resistant: The surface can be treated with anti-slip textures to prevent slipping in rainy or oily conditions, thereby enhancing pedestrian safety.
- Maintenance-Free: Requires no rust removal or painting; appearance and performance remain stable over long-term use, resulting in virtually zero maintenance costs.
- Highly Customizable: Colors (e.g., yellow, gray, blue), length, width, thickness, and rib spacing can all be customized to meet specific project requirements.
Key Application Scenarios
- Power & Telecommunications: Covers for cable trenches, substations, and communication conduits; provides electrical insulation and safety while protecting cables.
- Municipal Engineering: Covers for municipal drainage ditches and storm drains; offers strong weather resistance suitable for outdoor environments.
- Industrial Facilities: Trench covers and platform walkways for chemical plants, electroplating factories, and sewage treatment plants; provides resistance against acid and alkali corrosion.
- Agriculture & Livestock: Slatted flooring for livestock barns and covers for breeding ponds; resists corrosion caused by livestock waste gases and chemical fertilizers.
- Coastal Engineering: Covers for docks and piers; provides protection against erosion caused by seawater and salt spray. Advantages of FRP Covers Compared to Traditional Covers
Comparison Item | FRP Pultruded Cover | Traditional Cast Iron Cover | Traditional Concrete Cover
Corrosion Resistance | Excellent; resistant to acids, alkalis, and salt spray | Prone to rust; short service life | Prone to weathering and alkali seepage
Weight | Lightweight; easy to install | Heavy; requires mechanical lifting for installation | Extremely heavy; difficult to construct
Insulation Properties | Non-conductive; safe | Conductive; poses safety hazards | Insulating but brittle
Service Life | 20–30 years | 5–10 years | 10–15 years
Maintenance Cost | Virtually zero | High; requires rust removal and repainting | High; prone to cracking and requires frequent repairs
Key Points for Cover Installation
- Support Structure: Typically laid on the edges of concrete or steel trenches/channels. The support width should be ≥ 50mm to ensure uniform load distribution.
- Joining Methods:
- Flat Joint: Covers are abutted directly against one another with a gap of ≤ 5mm; suitable for scenarios where strict sealing is not required.
- Tongue-and-Groove Joint: Cover edges feature a tongue-and-groove design; provides a dust-proof seal after assembly; suitable for cable trenches and municipal utility ducts.
- Fixing Methods:
- No Fixing: For pedestrian-only areas, the cover's own weight is sufficient to ensure stability.
- Bolt Fixing: For areas with vehicular traffic, stainless steel bolts are used to secure the covers to the support structure, preventing displacement.
- Hinged Connection: For channels requiring frequent access/opening, stainless steel hinges can be installed to create hinged covers.
Construction Advantages of FRP Covers
- Single-Person Handling: Can be lifted and moved by a single person without the need for heavy lifting equipment; construction efficiency is 3–5 times higher than that of cast iron or concrete covers.
- Easy Cutting and Drilling: Can be easily cut or drilled on-site to adjust dimensions, allowing for adaptation to complex or irregular trench layouts.
